Many of Strathcona's businesses are working hard to reduce their environmental footprints and have come up with innovative ways of doing so. Whether it's waste reduction, building retrofits, or energy conservation, our members have tackled it. The following case studies highlight some of our green leaders - businesses that are staying ahead of the environmental curve.

Eclipse Awards International

Eclipse Awards--a recognition and awards company--has been implementing environmental initiatives since 2003. What began as a way to give back to the community has turned into a way of life for Eclipse. The company's first commitment was to procure green power, followed by extensive building retrofits and the installation of a green roof. Since then, Eclipse has led the way in employee incentives for choosing low-impact commuting options and is one of the first companeis in Vancouver to commit to the Living Wage Campaign.

Shirtland Drycleaners

Since 2007, Shirtland Drycleaners has been looking for ways to reduce the heavy environmental footprint that is customary in its industry. The owners have purchased energy efficient equipment, avoided the use of harmful chemicals,  and developed a reusable cloth alternative to the standard plastic dry cleaning bags. The company recently measured its carbon footprint through the Climate Smart program and continues to seek out new ways to respect the environment.
